Auschwitz Birkenau

A series of prints submitted to the Bruce Wilson Memorial Competition 2017 ; a competition held annually at the RA Photo Club in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Photographs were taken during a trip to Poland in 2015. Auschwitz is a short distance from Krakow, Poland. An estimated 1.3 million people were sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp from 1940-1944, of whom at least 1.1 million died. In 1979 Auschwitz-Birkenau was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
